Deerfield incorporated as a village in 1903. The village houses the corporate headquarters for Walgreen's and Baxter Healthcare as well as being the location for other major employers in Lake County.

Recreation

Numerous recreational and community facilities are available for individual and family recreation. Included are 20 park sites that total 331 acres, a community center, field house, two public swimming pools, and a bowling alley, 131 acre golf course, nature walk parks, baseball diamond, eight tennis courts, soccer fields, football fields and basketball courts.

Schools

Deerfield has an excellent school system consisting of Township High School District #113 (Deerfield High School) with total enrollment of 1,373. The majority of elementary students attend Deerfield District #109 with 2,505 students. District #109 Junior High School enrollment is 998.

Government Services

Fire protection is provided by the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District's 33 full-time firefighters, housed in one station. Police protection is provided by the Deerfield Police Department's 40 sworn officers.

Transportation

Residents can travel to Chicago via U.S. Rte. 41, Interstate 94 or by use of Metra's Milwaukee District/North Line commuter trains that reach the Loop within 45 minutes. Also, bus service is available to surrounding communities.

Developers have discovered Deerfield's desirability, and as a result, there are new custom homes available in virtually every neighborhood, as well as in wonderful new developments. Buyers may choose from Colonials, split-levels, ranches, Cape Cods and other popular home styles. Home's had an average sale price of $347,246 in 2000 and an average market time of 51 days.

Multiple Family Homes

New and older townhouses and condominiums are available in Deerfield and sell for between $139,000 and $625,000. The average 2002 attached housing sale price was $290,000.

In 2002, condominiums sold for an average of $236,000.

In 2002, townhomes sold for an average price of $370,000 outside the downtown area and $465,000 within the downtown area.
